Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie wrap up IWD with Free Rally through Barrie Downtown
Barrie, Ontario, Wednesday February 14 2024 – Media, local dignitaries and community members are invited to join the Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie as they celebrate International Women’s Day with Flag Raising & Proclamation and Rally through downtown Barrie.
Flag Raising Ceremony
Friday March 8th, 2024 outside at Barrie City Hall
4:30pm – Ward 4 Barrie City Councillor Amy Courser to announce proclamation & raise flag
Local dignitaries will also be on hand to speak
International Women’s Day Rally
Friday, March 8th, 2024 at Barrie City Hall Flag
4:55 pm – Welcoming speech by Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie Executive Director, Teresa MacLennan
5:00 pm – Gather outside, and encourage everyone to use his or her voice as we participate in a march through downtown Barrie that will end back at City Hall. Local organizations are welcome to bring a flag or banner with them to represent their group.
The theme for IWD is #InspireInclusion. When we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world. When women themselves are inspired to be included, there is a sense of belonging, relevance and empowerment.

Each year International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. The first International Women’s Day was held in 1909. Thousands of events occur to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women. International Women’s Day signifies the achievements of all women… those that paved the way before us, those that lead and encourage us today, and those future women that will further the rights and equality of all women.
